Dorothy Jean (Goblinger) Mabon

Born December 21, 1925

Dorothy Jean (Goblinger) Mabon, known fondly by all as Jean, age 89, of Landenberg, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2015.

Born in Johnstown, PA on December 21, 1925, Jean was the daughter of the late Joseph Charles Goblinger and Marvel MacPherson Goblinger. She attended Cambria Rowe Business College at a time when most women did not consider higher education. Jean graduated in 1946, just after the end of WWII. She was employed as a manager of the American Store in New Florence, PA and joined Pennsylvania Electric Company in the rate department until her marriage in 1950. After her husband’s death in 1963, she was a single mother who raised 5 children. In the 1980’s, Jean worked at the Dick Wagner Insurance Agency in New Florence. In 2008, she moved to Landenberg, PA with her daughter, Lois and her husband John.

Jean was a longtime member of the New Florence United Presbyterian Church where she served as the choir director for several years in the 1970’s. She played piano and was lead soprano in the church choir throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s. Jean joked that she was born in the sign of the foot. Her favorite pastime was travelling and she visited more than 25 states in the US and Eastern Canada and had also travelled to Scotland, England, Germany, Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting, cross word puzzles and keeping up with current events. She was an avid movie fan who loved classics from the 40’s and her favorites were Gone with the Wind and Casablanca.

Jean was known as the beloved Grandma Jean to her grandchildren and will be remembered for her strength, her kindness and her sweet smile. She was a wonderful, gentle lady who had a grace about the way she carried herself. She will be missed by all those that loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Mabon, daughter, Kathy Rae Mabon Kadi and son, James Robert Mabon, Jr. Jean is survived by her children, Cindy Jean Mabon Yusko (Emil) of New Florence, PA, Lois Jane Mabon (John Bacino) of Landenberg, PA and Robert Alan Mabon (Crystal) of Landenberg, PA; grandchildren, Jay and Mike Yusko, Heather Mabon Connor (Andre), Jayme Mabon, Erin Bacino Ingui (Joe), Megan Mabon Lasco (Abe), Charlotte Mabon and Austin Mabon; and 6 great grandchildren, Jasmine Connor, Graziella and Bianca Ingui and Tristin, Kody and Bear Lasco.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 pm until 4 pm on Saturday afternoon, January 17, 2015 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. A second visitation will be held from 10 am until 12 Noon on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, 139 Ligonier Street, New Florence, PA, where a funeral service will follow at 12 Noon. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, 801 Millcreek Road, Johnstown, PA.

  • Dear Elizabeth,

I believe you have the wrong person. My mom was not a dialysis companion. I just wanted to let you know so that you leave a message in the right guestbook.
