Dorothy M. Wood

Mrs. Dorothy M. Wood, age 71, of Newark, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 19, 2010.

A native Delawarean, Mrs. Wood was born in Wilmington on October 26, 1938, daughter of the late Geza Nemes and Dorothy Meadows Nemes. She was a talented homemaker throughout her life and delighted in caring for and spending time with her family. She was especially proud of her beloved grandchildren, whom she adored and was known to happily brag about on many occasions.

Mrs. Wood was an active, longtime member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Brookside, where she served as a deacon, participated in the Womens Group, and was involved with Quilts for Comfort over the years. In her leisure hours, she enjoyed playing bingo and electronic games, solving word search puzzles, and reading the works of her favorite novelist, Danielle Steel.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Calbel C. Woody Wood; daughter, Diana McKnight Atchley (Steven); sons, C.C. Wood, Jr. (Cathy), Robert Wood (Deborah), and Clifford R. Wood, Sr. (Danielle); sisters, Julie Taylor, Adele Johnston, and Elane Boulden; brother, Geza Ed Nemes, Jr.; grandchildren, David, Jennifer, Michael, Elizabeth Ann, Ryan, Katie, Justin, Daniel, CJ, Mackenzie, Joshua, and Jake; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a great grandchild, Kashis.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Wood may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 200 Marrows Road, Newark, DE 19713. Please mark donations for youth group.
