Douglass B. Stanley, Sr. Mr. Douglass B. Stanley, Sr. age 78, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by his four children on May 7, 2010, at Christiana Hospital.


Mr. Stanley was born on May 1, 1932, in Bear, DE, and was the son of the late Howard and Lillian Stanley. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his retirement from the Du Pont Company, Mr. Stanley worked as a bus driver for Staplefords. He was a member of the Red Lion Evangelical Church. A dedicated family man, Mr. Stanley delighted in spending time with his loved ones.


Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Heal Stanley; and his brothers, Howard and Lewis Stanley. He is survived by his children, Douglass B. Stanley, Jr. and his wife, Donna of Smyrna, DE, Patricia A. Stapleford of Bear, DE, Susan E. Moore and her husband, Kevin of Middletown, DE, and David M. Stanley of Bear, DE; brother, Clarence Stanley, and his wife, Cele of Dover, DE; sisters, Pearl Parson of Dover, DE, Evelyn Bendler of New Castle, DE, and Agnes Bentley and her husband, John of Bear, DE; grandchildren, Douglass B. III and John Thomas Hurd- Stanley, Tyson S. and Ryan M. Stapleford, Kyle A. Moore, Laura E., Sarah N., Melissa L., Michael C., and Jessica E. Stanley; and many nieces and nephews.


A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the Red Lion Evangelical Free Church, 1400 Red Lion Rd., Bear, DE 19701. Friends may call on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. Du Pont Pky., New Castle, DE 19720. Interment will be in New St. Pauls Cemetery, Delaware City, DE.
