Edward C. Daley, age 92, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 5, 2016.

Born in Boston, MA on June 2, 1924, Mr. Daley was the son of the late Arthur and Margaret E. (Burke) Daley. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII and continued his military career until retiring at the rank of Chief Petty Officer in 1967 after 25 years of service. Additionally, Mr. Daley worked as an engineer for the Boeing Air Craft Company in Philadelphia for 18 years, retiring in 1987.

He enjoyed golfing and bowling in his leisure time. Mr. Daley was inducted into the Wilmington Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2003. He along with his wife, Theresa shared many happy memories travelling together. Above all else, he will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and companion and will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Daley was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Lorraine (Bersig) Daley; son, Edward L. Daley; and daughter, Mary L. Malick. He is survived by his children, Lorraine J. Prinston of Lakewood, NJ, James F. Daley (Mary) of Delmar, DE and Patricia A. Daley (Jerry Heath) of New Castle, DE; son-in-law, Richard Malick of Brick, NJ; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 1 great great granddaughter. Also surviving is Mr. Daley’s companion of many years, Elizabeth Harlan of Middletown, DE.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Tuesday morning, June 14, 2016, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Coatesville VA Medical Center Voluntary Services, 1400 Black Horse Hill Rd., Coatesville, PA 19320.

  • It’s with great sadness to hear about Ed’s passing. I saw Ed 2 years ago shortly after his 90th Birthday. He looked wonderful, the man never changed. He always treated me with such respect. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. My deepest condolences to the family during this very difficult time. We’re so sorry for your loss. Your in our thoughts and prayers.
