Edward C. McKnitt
Mr. Edward C. McKnitt, age 66, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2010, at Christiana Hospital.
Born in Wilmington on October 1, 1944, Ed was the son of the late Wallace L. McKnitt, Sr. and Mildred Elizabeth Green McKnitt. He attended William Penn High School and would go on to serve his country proudly in the United States Air Force. He was employed with the DuPont Company at the Chambers Works site, retiring after a bone marrow transplant in 1997.
Active in his community, Ed was a member of Joseph B. Stahl Post #30 American Legion, General W.W. Atterbury Post VFW, the Vietnam Veterans of America, St. Anthonys Club in New Castle, and the Summit North Yacht Club. He was a Lifetime Member of both ABATE and Harley Davidson Owners and was also a longtime supporter of The Marine Corps – Law Enforcement Foundation. Ed greatly enjoyed spending time on his boat and being with his many friends, especially those at Summit North Marina, where he was known as Mayor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wallace L. McKnitt, Jr. He is survived by his sister and caregiver, Carol M. Heinold of Magnolia, DE; his son, Heath Underwood of Arizona; 7 grandchildren; and 4 nieces.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, October 28, 2010, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Glebe Cemetery in New Castle.
