Edward J. Binasiewicz, Sr.

Edward J. Binasiewicz, Sr., age 92, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 6, 2017.

Edward was born in Reading, PA on March 15, 1925, and was the son of the late James I. and Anna (Szaj) Binasiewicz. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. Edward worked in maintenance for the Christina School District, retiring in 1990 after 22 years of dedicated employment.

A man of strong Catholic faith, he was a parishioner of St. Margaret of Scotland Church in Newark and was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a longtime member of the Lt. J. Allison O’Daniel VFW Post 475 in Newark. Above all else, Edward was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth A. (Moyer) Binasiewicz; daughter, Kathleen B. Riley (Terrence) of Newark; sister, Patricia Chlebowski-Eroh (Richard) of Ocean Isle, NC; grandchildren, Kristopher Mitchell of Jacksonville, FL and Klaire Mitchell of Newark; and great granddaughter, Kyleigh Mitchell.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Saturday morning, June 10, 2017, at St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE 19702, where a visitation will be held from 9 am until 10 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Margaret of Scotland Church, at the address listed above.

  • A smile & a hug are the first things to come to mind when I think of Ed ……… and the pride he had for his family. My deepest sympathies to Betty, and Kathy & her family. May the memories you’ve created over the years bring you comfort. You’re all in my thoughts & prayers.

  • I am so sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. I so enjoyed visiting you both when I came with Fred Dawson. Ed was a great man!

    It is a sad occasion to loss someone like this but we know he will be with God .

I read your sad news in the Reading, Pa paper and wanted to extend sincere sympathy to you from myself and from my Aunt, Sara(Dolly) Reppert. My Mother, Hilda, also recently passed away on Memorial Day. She was 97 years old and lived a really nice life. I am sure your loved one is resting peacefully in God’s kingdom.
