Mrs. Elaine E. Sullivan, age 82, of Port St. Lucie, FL, formerly of New Castle, DE, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2011.
Born in Greensboro, MD, on October 6, 1928, Mrs. Sullivan was the daughter of the late Clinton Joseph Edwards and Ruth Pauline Hubbard. She attended Washington State University and graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelors degree in music. For many years, she served as a substitute music teacher at the former Minquadale Elementary School in New Castle and was on the faculty of a local music school. She also gave both piano and accordian lessons in her home.
With her family, she owned the former Indian Trailer Sales and S & S Modular Suppy in New Castle. In 1973, she and her husband purchased the Minquadale Trailer Park, which Mrs. Sullivan owned and operated until her retirement to Port St. Lucie in 2008. She also worked as a tour guide on senior bus trips for a local travel agency.
A devout Christian, Mrs. Sullivan was a former member of the United Methodist Church of Greensboro and the New Castle Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir for many years and was a featured soloist. Most recently, she attended the First United Methodist Church of Port St. Lucie.
In her leisure hours, Mrs. Sullivan greatly enjoyed reading, attending musical performances, and traveling with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter D. Sullivan, in 1975. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Helen Sullivan-Blackburn (Cliff) of Port St. Lucie, FL; niece, Colleen Boehm (Joe) of Davie, FL; great niece, Brianna Boehm; nephews, Tim Maher of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Brian Maher of Las Vegas, NV; goddaughter, Kathi Lucks Harvey of Smyrna, DE; and many cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, February 10th, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Entombment will follow in the adjoining mausoleum.
