Eleanor N. Skibicki

Died: 5/28/2010

Mrs. Eleanor N. Skibicki, age 67, passed away peacefully at her home in Dover, DE, on Friday, May 28, 2010, with her loving husband of 45 years at her side. She was born Eleanor Margaret Norvell in Wilmington, DE, in 1943, to Bernard Norvell and Eleanor M. (Lulli) Norvell. Tragically, her father died just three years later. In 1952, her mother married Capt. Edward S. Mack, a Merchant Marine captain and, later, master pilot (Panama Canal Zone). Her family moved to the Panama Canal Zone in 1959. After graduating from Balboa High School, Eleanor moved back to Delaware to live her aunt and uncle. It was there in the small community of West Minquadale that she would meet the man she would later marry. She was 21 and he was 20, and from that union, two children were born. Her working career was cut short by the onset of emphysema, but she continued to be a loving housewife and mother. She would live to see her children grow up and have children of their own. She enjoyed her role as mother, wife, and grandmother, and even partnered in a small ceramic business with her girlfriend, Sandy. Then cancer struck in 2003, and another cancer in 2008. Eleanor was predeceased by her father, her stepfather, and her first grandson, Gregory C. Diehl. She is survived by her husband, William A. Skibicki, Jr.; her children, Valerie A. Diehl of Wilmington and William Edward Skibicki (Christy) of Magnolia; her grandchildren, Erica N. Diehl, Britney E. Diehl, Braeden C. Skibicki, and Kayley A. Skibicki; her mother, Eleanor M. Mack of Sun City Center, FL; and her sister, Elaine McArthur (Bruce) of Lutz, FL. Visitation will be held from 10:30 am to 12 noon on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:30 pm at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Eleanor may be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Ste. 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
