Elinor T. Evans, age 92, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 11, 2015.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware on April 8, 1922, Elinor was the only child of the late Clarence P. Taylor and Jennie (Jenkins) Taylor. She was a member of the P.S. DuPont High School class of 1940 and a graduate of Beacom College. Elinor made her career as a secretary with the Colonial School District, retiring in 1983 after 20 years of dedicated service.

She was a longtime member of the New Castle United Methodist Church, where she was active in the choir and the United Methodist Women’s group. After retiring, Elinor remained an active member of her community for 15 years and sang with the Blue Rock Chorus and also volunteered in the gift shop at the Methodist Country House. In her leisure time, she enjoyed travelling with her late husband. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Elinor adored spending time with her family and will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold M. Evans. She is survived by her twin daughters, Faye E. Morford of Arlington, VA and Ellen E. Leonzio of Wilmington, DE; granddaughters, Alyssa Delaney (Jason Sparklin) of Wilmington, DE and Jennie Leonzio of Charlotte, NC; and 3 great grandsons, Reid Ziomek, Connor Delaney and Dylan Delaney.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Madidah Coleman, Watchen Peabody and Marie-Gisele Amougou of Griswold Home Care and the staff of Vitas Hospice and Foulk Manor North Health Center for the exceptional care they provided to Elinor.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday morning, February 18, 2015 at The Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Castle United Methodist Church, 510 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720 or to the New Castle Hundred Lions Club, P.O. Box 462, New Castle, DE 19720.

    When your hearts feel empty, filling it with happy memories can help. We know that your mom made many special memories for you both, and you certainly returned many back to her.
