Elinor Theresa (Fox) Springer - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Elinor Theresa (Fox) Springer

April 7, 1931 - December 14, 2016

Elinor Theresa (Fox) Springer, age 85, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children, Lark, Susan, Steve, Karla and Patty on Wednesday, December 14, 2016. She was born in Phoenixville and raised in Milton, PA. She was the daughter of the late Horace L. and Mae E. (Gray) Fox.

During the Virginia Cherry Blossom Festival in the spring of 1949, Elinor eloped with the only love of her life, Harold Thomas Springer. Together they created a family of 5 children, Lark Nagle (Mike Horgan), Susan Clayton (Don), Steven Springer Sr., Karla Denison (Kevin), Patty DiCampli (Tom); their 14 grandchildren, John Hendrix (Amy), Robin Farrokh-Siar (Babak), Sara Beazley (Jason), Drew Clayton (Stephanie), Steven Springer Jr., Jeremy Springer (Ashley), Thomas Springer, Kyle Rowe (Abby), Mason Rowe (Renee), Megan Geiser (Antonio), Ben Geiser, Sammi Geiser, Connor Denison, Gavin Denison; and their 13 great-grandchildren, Katie Kennedy (Brandon), Breck Hendrix, Ethan Kalafut, Tristan Kalafut, Zander Kalafut, Brooklyn Farrokh-Siar, Layla Farrokh-Siar, Skylar Farrokh-Siar, Henry Clayton, Peyton Rowe, Robert Rowe, Taylor Springer, Emma Springer (and two more on the way).

Known as Terry to her co-workers, she retired from Sears after working in their Coffee Shop, Hardware and Paint Departments. Besides working she was a lifelong homemaker who was known for her legendary baking, cooking and sewing skills. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting baby sweaters and blankets for every baby born to our family and others. Along with her sister Pat, she was an active participant in both the McKean and Delcastle High School Craft Fairs. Many memories were made being a part of the McKean Band Boosters, working with the concession stand, competitions, fundraising, and trips.

Her daughter’s daycare children, who kept her young at heart, knew her as Mom Mom Cheerios. Her most cherished memories include traveling to Europe with her best friends Grace and Bob Rasmussen and her sister Mae, backyard picnics with her Faulkland Heights neighbors Pat, Phyllis and Mary, and family vacations to Cape Henlopen.

In addition to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, she is survived by her sisters, Helen Scholl (Carl) and Pat Williams (Bob). Elinor was reunited in heaven with her sons-in-law, John, Paul and Charlie, her sister, Mae and most especially the love of her life, Harold.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:30 pm until 3:30 pm on Monday afternoon, December 19, 2016 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will be held at 3:30 pm. Interment will be held privately in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In appreciation for the wonderful support and excellent care of their mom and in lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, 2nd Floor, Newark, DE 19711.

  • We are sorry for the loss you all are facing.

  • Knowing Mrs. Springer for more than half my life is a privilege I am eternally grateful for, she was a beautiful soul, wonderful Mother & friend. I had the pleasure of being her son in law for many years and I saw what true love is thru the passing of her beloved husband that she stayed true to and I’m sure is elated to be joined with again. Because of her beautiful life I have the three greatest gifts a man can have in my own children with her daughter.
Elinor you’ll always be my Mother in Law in my heart and you will be missed and I’m blessed for the years I knew you!

    Much love & God bless,
    Dave Geiser
