Elizabeth “Ann” Lakey

Born May 15, 1929

Elizabeth “Ann” Lakey, age 85, of Delaware City, DE, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015.

A lifelong Delawarean, Ann was born in Smyrna on May 15, 1929 and was the daughter of the late David L. Money, Sr. and Clara (Gooding) Money. She was a member of the Conrad High School graduating class of 1946. Ann made her career as a cafeteria worker and manager with the Colonial School District, retiring in 1977 after 13 years of dedicated service.

She was a longtime and active member of the Cooch’s Bridge chapter of DAR in Newark. Ann was an award-winning artist and exceptional wood carver. Described by all as sweet, kind and loving, she was known for her compassionate nature and gentle heart. Ann adored hosting family gatherings and loved visiting the beaches of Fenwick Island. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, David L. Money, Jr. Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley Z. Lakey. She is survived by her children, Stanley Lakey (Linda) of Wilmington, Ann Clare Barrows of Mansfield, TX, Nancy L. Morris of Wilmington, Stephen Lakey (Rhenda) of Lewes, and Mary E. Rosenbauer (Robert) of Bear; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday morning, May 16, 2015, at the First Presbyterian Church of Delaware City, 138 Jefferson Street, Delaware City, DE. Interment will follow in Delaware City Cemetery, Clinton Street, Delaware City.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Delaware City, P.O. Box 4105, Delaware City, DE 19706.
