Elizabeth (Sehrt) Sperry

Born August 19, 1917

Betty (Sehrt) Sperry of Newark, DE and formerly of Baltimore, MD peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2013 after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Born on August 19, 1917 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mabel Sehrt.

Betty attended Western Maryland College and graduated from Temple University with a degree in elementary education.

Most of Betty’s ˜career’ was that of a devoted wife and mother. For a number of years, she enjoyed teaching kindergarten.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed travelling, with a special love for visiting the Pennsylvania Dutch area around Lancaster, PA. Most of all, Betty enjoyed supporting and spending time with her loving family. Her loving heart and gentle spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise; her first husband, Simeon V.T. Markline, MD and her second husband of 41 years, Charles Sperry.

Betty leaves many cherished memories to her three children, Charles Markline and his wife, Judy of Santa Maria, CA, Wayne Sperry of Towson, MD and Beth (Sperry) Jackson and her husband, Willard of Newark, DE; two loving grandchildren, Catheryn and Mark and three special great-grandchildren, Sarah, Scott and Rachel; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 am on Friday, December 6 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE 19711, where friends may call from 9:30-10:30 am. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 pm at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, 200 E. Padonia Rd., Timonium, MD 21093.

In lieu of flowers, Betty’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, PO Box 650309; Dallas, TX 75265-0309 or to VITAS Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive, Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713.

Our sincere sympathies in your loss of your beloved Betty. I have nothing but fond memories of time spent with her growing up in Maryland, and later in life when she was in Delaware. • To my dear cousins..Chuck, Beth, Wayne and their families. So sad to learn of the passing of Aunt Betty. I’m remembering how gracious, beautiful and kind she was. In looking through Mom and Dad’s pictures I can remember so many wonderful family memories. Dinners at Pop and Nana’s followed by watching TV in the sunroom, going to the Blackstone Restaurant all dressed up for whatever holiday we were celebrating, spending time at Mayfield Ave. together and those old fashioned Christmas gatherings. How blessed we are to have those precious memories. Keeping you in my heart..

With sympathy, with love, with prayer.. Janet, Jon and family
