Ellen V. Hamby, age 60, of Elsmere, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2017.

A lifelong Delawarean, Ellen was born in Wilmington on August 14, 1956, and was a daughter of the late Vaughn T. Dale, Sr. and Shirley M. (Nonstad) Legg. She made her career with the State of Delaware, where she worked as a secretary for the Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families, retiring after many years of dedicated service.

An avid animal lover, Ellen gave of her time as a past volunteer with the Delaware Humane Association. She will be lovingly missed by her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her sister, Susan Davis. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence D. Larry Hamby; stepdaughter, Deana Stanton of Oxford, PA; brother, Vaughn T. Dale, Jr. (Jeanette) of Wilmington; and lifelong friend, Peggy Wagner of Kirkwood.

A gathering for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Thursday morning, July 27, 2017, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ellen’s memory may be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street. Wilmington, DE 19801.
