Elsie L. Herbein

Elsie L. Herbein, age 86, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2018.

Born in Ringtown, PA on April 13, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Clair and Olive (Knorr) Beaver.  Elsie was a 1949 graduate of Ringtown High School in PA.  She was a loving and talented homemaker and had a long career with the Christina School District as a teachers aide.

Elsie loved to travel and solve word search puzzles. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and a dear friend to many.

In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles W. Herbein; sister, Evelyn Fairall; daughter in-law, Maureen Herbein; and great granddaughter, Mackenzie Herbein.  She is survived by her sons, Randy (Debbie) of Newark, Terry (Olga) of Smyrna, Dana (Bari) of Newark and Kevin (Krista) of Newark; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Ruthanne Lindenmuth (Bruce) of Rittman, OH: and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 pm until 4 pm on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE.  A funeral service will be held at 10 am, on Monday, March 5, 2018 at the funeral home.  Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elsie’s name to Alzheimer’s Association, Delaware Valley, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA, 19106.

  • I am sorry to hear of Elsie’s passing. She was a lovely and dedicated teacher’s aide in my classroom at Brookside Elementary for many years. I have many fond memories of Elsie. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
