Emma Pauline Maco

Emma Pauline Maco, age 87, of Newark, DE, passed away quietly on Sunday, April 27, 2014, with her daughter, Trece by her side.

Polly was born in Lancaster County, PA on October 29, 1926, and was a daughter of the late Dayton Patton Wanner and Mary Rachel Kurtz Wanner. She spent most of her life as a resident of Sadsburyville, PA, then Reston, VA and finally Newark, DE.

Polly graduated from Coatesville High School on June 2, 1944 and Coatesville Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. With WWII ending, nurses were in high demand at home and she loved caring for her patients. Polly worked at Coatesville Hospital until her marriage to Louis J. Luke Maco, Sr. on June 4, 1949. After her children were grown, she went back to work in the first aid dispensary at Lukens Steel Company in Coatesville where she would make her career for the next 16 years.

Polly was a member of the Sadsbury Garden Club, Sadsbury Grange, Lukens Veterans Guild, Young Women’s Association of Upper Octara Church, Ladies Card club, Ladies Soldarity, Ladies Association of West End Fire Company and a longtime member of Our Lady of Consolation Church.

Polly was strong, kind and gentle-mannered. She was instantly loved by anyone she met. Polly always put the needs of others before her own, never thinking of herself first. She was a devoted wife and mother who adored caring for her family. She enjoyed traveling, tending to her flowers and trees, making baskets and caning chairs and her antiques.

In addition to her parents, Polly was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Louis J. Maco, Sr., her sister, Mildred Wanner Webster, brothers-in-law, Robert B. Webster and Joseph Yankech, niece, Mary Alice Webster and nephew, Robert Webster, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Patrece Trece Maco of Newark, DE; sons, Louis J. Jody Maco, Jr. of Metairie, LA and Dayton Michael Daytie Maco of Sterling, VA; and 3 grandchildren, Phillip Wesley Maco of Pearl River, LA and Trevor Andrew and Hunter Tyler Maco, both of Sterling, VA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Friday morning, May 16, 2014 at St. Malachi’s R.C. Church of Doe Run, 76 St. Malachi Road, Coatesville, PA, where a visitation will be held from 10 am until 11 am. A private memorial service and inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Polly’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read’s Way, Ste. 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
