Born January 2, 1938

Ermin T. Dalessio, known fondly as Ernie,” age 78, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family on Monday, July 25, 2016.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on January 2, 1938, Mr. Dalessio was the son of the late Emidio T. and Frances (De Rago) Dalessio. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and later served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Ocean City, MD. Mr. Dalessio spent his career serving the citizens of Philadelphia as a police officer, retiring in 1988 at the rank of Sergeant. He later served with the Fire Police as a member of the Roxana Volunteer Fire Company.

A devout Catholic, he was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in New Castle where he served as a Eucharistic minister and often volunteered his time and talents. Mr. Dalessio was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved spending time in his boat, on the ocean fishing. A passionate Philadelphia sports fan, he enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams. A devoted and loving family man, Mr. Dalessio was happiest in the company of his loved ones and especially looked forward to family vacations at the beach.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Anne M. (Eddis) Dalessio; children, Stephen W. Dalessio (Karen), Deborah A. Rantuccio (Blase) and Christa M. Yazidjian (Gregory, Jr.); grandchildren, Astrid, Nicholas, Matthew, Gregory and Vincent; and 2 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 Noon on Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 12 Noon. Interment will be held privately in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Dalessio’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market Street, Ste. 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106 or to Compassionate Care Hospice, 248 E. Chestnut Hill Rd., Suite 4, Newark, DE 19713.
