Eugene Stanley Pietras, known fondly as “Pete,” age 84, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Newark Manor where he resided.

A native Delawarean, Pete was born in Wilmington on August 23, 1931, and was a son of the late Adam Pietras and Josephine (Dobek) Pietras. He made his career as a machinist with the Speakman Company, retiring after 33 years of dedicated service. Strong in his faith, Pete was a longtime parishioner of St. Hedwig R.C. Church in Wilmington.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Jane (Wernicki) Pietras who died in 2003. Pete is survived by his niece, Elaine Funk and husband, Vance of Newark, DE; brother, Al Pietras of Wilmington, DE; great niece, Kelly Kent; great nephew, Vance Anderson Funk IV; great great nieces, Katherine Kent and Madison Funk; great great nephew, Christopher Kent; and a host of additional nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Newark Manor Nursing Home and Vitas Hospice for the exceptional care they provided and to Pete’s great nieces and nephews for their love and support.

A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday morning, October 27, 2015, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 am until 10 am. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Pete’s memory may be made to St. Hedwig R.C. Church, 408 S. Harrison St., Wilmington, DE 19805.
