Frances E. Nowakowski, age 88, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 8, 2018.
Born in Wilmington, DE on April 20, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Elsie (Caldwell) Sweeny. Frances dedicated her life to her family as a loving and talented homemaker.

Passionate about music, Frances was reverered as an excellent pianist. She was a member of St. John’s/Naomi Chapters Order of the Eastern Star for 60 years, serving as Organist, Grand Organist and Worthy Matron. Above all, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Tadewsz Nowakowski; son, Charles E. Chance; step daughter, Shirley Kriaski and sisters, Irene Burris, June Russell, Florence Calloway and Josephine Garrett. She is survived by her daughters, Katherine Chance (Jack Syva) of New Castle and Vada Dolphin of Bear; step children, Linda Abdullah of Newark, Diane Kraemer (Jonathan) of Middletown, CT and Ted Nowakowski (Sandy) of Townsend; brother, Thomas Sweeny of Newark; sister, Vada Lockerman of Hockessin; daughter-in-law, Grace Gardner of Jennersville, PA; grandchildren, Chuck Gardner and Kari Tomlinson and Zac, Josh and Noah Dolphin; several great grandchildren, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frances’ name to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, #205, New Castle, DE 19720.
