Francis A. Paglia

Mr. Francis A. Paglia, age 91, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at his home. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on February 25, 1919, Frank was the son of the late Michael and Maria (Gentile) Paglia. He proudly served his country as a master sergeant in the US Armys 27th Signal Corps (27th Division) during World War II and was stationed in many locales across the Pacific Theater including Hawaii, Gilbert, Makin, Saipan, and Okinawa. In civilian life, he made his career with the former Asam Brothers Wallpaper and Paint Co. in Wilmington, retiring as the store manager after 32 years of service. An active member of Our Lady of Fatima parish in New Castle, Frank served as a Eucharistic Minister and collection counter and was also a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. For his years of dedicated parish service, he received the SVDP Top Hat Award, the Kitty Wilson Award, and the Knights of Columbus Expression of Appreciation. In 2005, he was awarded the Order of Merit in recognition of his many outstanding contributions to the Diocese of Wilmington. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Anna Mantegna Paglia; daughters, Maryann S. Loeb and husband, William, of Newark, and Frances S. Paglia of New Castle; grandsons, Kristofer Loeb and Matthew Loeb and wife, Kelly; great grandson, Leo; 4 sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 2 sisters. Franks family and many friends will hold forever in their hearts his endearing wit, creativity, love for music and the Phillies. The family acknowledges many for their love and support: Donna Wilding, Jackie Shahan, Deborah Wadsley, Kathy Crump, Leslie McCauley, Susan Paglia, Paul Collins, Jim LeNoir, Evelyn Kern, Christine Dzienis, Sandy Maguire, and for excellence in care, the Wilmington VA HBPC staff, Bayada, and Vitas Hospice. Visitation will be held from 9 am to 11 am on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 am at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Interment will be in Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 Sproul Road, Springfield, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Paglia may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, c/o Our Lady of Fatima, 801 N.
