Francis E.B. McCann, Jr., age 84, of Newark, Delaware, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018.

Fran was born in Wilmington, Delaware on April 18, 1933, and was a son of the late Francis E. and Naomi (Riley) McCann, Sr.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.  Fran was the proud owner of Francis E. McCann Associates, an appraisal company and dedicated 60 years as a real estate agent.

A Delaware native, he graduated from Salesianum in 1951 and attended Mount Saint Mary’s.  Fran loved sailing, kayaking and traveling.  His hobbies included photography and was a former Boy Scout troop leader.  Fran was instrumental in the re-vitalization of the Westminster House that opened in 1994.  He was also involved in the NCC Board of Adjustment for many years.

In addition to his parents, Fran is preceded in death by 2 brothers, James and Richard McCann.  He is survived by 4 children, including Stephen McCann (Rene) of Wilmington, NC and Jenny Darden (Jim) of Newark; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; close friends, Harry Hutchison (MaryAnn) and Tim Ritchie (Petra); and the rest of the Panera gang.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral  Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 10 am until 11 am, followed by a funeral service at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Fran’s name to the Westminster House, 292 W Main St, Newark, DE 19711 or Season’s Hospice, 4755 Ogletown Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19718.
