Francis L. Sill, known fondly as Les, age 74, of Townsend, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2014.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on September 13, 1939, Les was a son of the late Frank L. Sill and Mary Elizabeth Tucker Sill. He made his career as a pipefitter with William D. Shellady Mechanical and in 1995, founded Christiana Mechanical. Les was an exceptionally hardworking man and dedicated not only to the success of his business, but providing his customers with excellent service.

Well known for his giving and compassionate nature, he was happy to help anyone in need. He adored family gatherings and spending time with his loved ones. Les was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John. Les is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Lorraine Poist Sill; children, Jeffrey A. Sill (Terri) of Middletown, M. Angela Everett (Clarence) of Townsend, Gregory P. Sill of Galena, MD and Tricia A. McGee (Gregory) of Powell, OH; sisters, Helen Jackson (Ed) of Millsboro and Ann Herrin (Woody) of Hockessin; 8 grandchildren, Beth, Jeff Jr., Kelsey, Ben, Quinn, Owen, Noah and Macklin; and his great grandson, Ryan.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the entire staff of the Seasons Hospice In-Patient Unit at Christiana Hospital and the occupational and physical therapists at Bayada, especially Stephanie Duke, OT and Mamie Doyle, PT, for the exceptional care they provided to Les.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday morning, September 5, 2014, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Seasons Hospice of Delaware, 220 Continental Drive, Ste. 101, Newark, DE 19713.

  • My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Sills Family. I will miss him everyday and know what a loss we have here on Earth but what an asset to Heaven. I cried this morning when I learned of his passing but I am smiling tonight thinking of his witty smile when he came to visit me at Carl King! I am blessed to have have him in my life as I know all of you are and he will last in my memories forever. I am grateful he isn’t suffering and has peace in his life. As for us need to think of him and smile and remember Matthews: “Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted.” My arms are wide open for each and everyone of you even though I can’t be there which breaks my heart.
