Francis M. Lally, Jr., age 89, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 4, 2014.

Fran was the son of the late Francis M. Lally, Sr. and Margie Mae Johnston Lally. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lelia T. Stewart Lally, an infant son, Luke, 2 sisters Margie B. Lally and Ann J. Marvain and his grandson, Paul Michael Lally.

He is survived by his sons Francis M. Lally, III (Georganne) of Newark and Mark S. Lally (Mary Beth) of Lewes. 7 grandchildren; Heather Olson, Carrie Clark, Kelly Bennett, Mark Lally, II, Caitlin Lally, Morgan Lally and Sean Lally. Additionally, he is survived by 9 great grandchildren; Aaron, Hannah, Evan, Paul, II, Taylor Rose, Cameron, Chase, Mark, III and Reese. Also, Kayne, McKenzie, Nick and Arwyn.

A World War II veteran with the United States Marine Corps, Fran saw combat in the South Pacific in the Marshall Islands, including Eniwetok, Enjebi and Kwajalein. He served on the Delaware State Police Auxiliary during the 1950s.

Fran made his career as a meat cutter and meat and seafood manager with the former A&P and SuperFresh grocery chain retiring after 41 years of dedicated service. Additionally, he served as a public relations specialist for Haldeman’s Wholesale and Retail Seafood in Chadds Ford, PA. He also worked for Tomm’s Produce Market in Hockessin and for Stoltzfus Meats at the New Castle Farmer’s Market, finally retiring at the age of 87.

He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America from his youth serving as Scoutmaster for many troops.

He served his churches as a Deacon, Deaf Minister, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher and anywhere else he was asked to serve others.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday morning, September 10, 2014, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 11 am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lighthouse Baptist Church Building Fund, 1842 Otts Chapel Rd., Newark, DE 19702.
