Frank Kuhn Torbert, Jr., age 92, of Bear, DE, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013.

Born in Camden, New Jersey on August 26, 1921, Hank was the son of the late Frank K. Torbert, Sr. and Elizabeth Gibason Shelton Torbert. He bravely served in the US Army during WWII and was a survivor of the invasion of Normandy Beach. After his honorable discharge from the military, Hank worked as a mechanic for Shallcross Chevrolet in Middletown. He later joined the Chrysler Corporation, where he was employed at the company’s Newark plant as a forklift and mechanical repairman. Hank retired in 1981 after many years of dedicated service.

He was a former member of the Grand Lodge of Delaware AF & AM Union Lodge No. 5 of Middletown and a current member of the High Noon Lodge No. 38 in Newport. Hank was a frequent patron of Schaefer’s Canal House in Chesapeake City, MD where he shared many happy times with family and friends. In his leisure time, he enjoyed carving and painting duck decoys. Hank will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Kershaw Ellison Torbert, who passed away in April of this year. He is survived by his son, Scott Torbert and fiancée Jane Myers; 2 grandsons, Jeremy and Matt, who were his pride and joy; and his nephews, Frank and Albert Crompton.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at the St. Georges Cemetery, Kirkwood-St. Georges Rd., St. Georges, DE. Interment will follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702 B Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
