Frank L. Yannes, age 57, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Monday, April 4, 2016.

Born in Hazleton, PA on July 3, 1958, Frank was a son of the late Frank S. and Joan E. (Rossi) Yannes. He was a graduate of the University of Delaware and later attended graduate school at Bloomsburg University. Frank was a career educator who taught Driver’s Education at Newark, Christiana and Glasgow High Schools for many years.

An avid sports fan, he was a Philadelphia Phillies season ticket holder and a proud supporter of the UD Blue Hens. Frank enjoyed visiting Delaware Park and taking golf trips with friends in his leisure time. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored. Above all else, he was a devoted family man who will be very dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosetta Kay “Rose” (Fioravanti) Yannes. He is survived by his daughter, Tanya Casapulla (Drew) of Newark; brothers, Jeffery Yannes (Suki) of Great Mills, MD, David Yannes of Newark and Barry Yannes (Mandy) of Silver Spring, MD; grandchildren, Samantha and Jacob; 3 step grandchildren, AJ, Ryan and Christopher; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 2 pm until 4 pm on Sunday afternoon, April 10, 2016 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Monday morning, April 11, 2016, at Holy Family R.C. Church, E. Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark, DE. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Frank’s memory may be made to Faithful Friends, 12 Germay Drive, Wilmington, DE 19804 or to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive, Ste. 302 Newark, DE 19713.

  • As I drove home from a sad day at Christiana High thinking of the many lives Frank has touched, I couldn’t help but wonder how many drivers I passed had received driver education, and care, and friendship from him over the years. He will be greatly missed. God bless your family with peace and memories.

  • I’m sorry to here of his passing, he was my drivers ed instructor at Newark high. He also lived in the same neighborhood as family of mine so I seen him often…. he was great at his job, he made it fun (as if learning to drive isn’t already fun) but he was a great guy, God bless your family.

  • I was very sorry to hear about the passing of one of our teachers at CHS. I remember seeing Mr. Yannes walking down the halls always smiling. My heart goes out to his family and friends.   • Frank’s face was always the first I would see each morning at Christiana High. He’d open the door and let me in with a smile on even the coldest mornings. He’d make our students so happy when they’d pass the driving test and get their blue cards. He was such a gentle, kind soul. He will be sorely missed.
