Gary Alan Wilds, Sr.

Died: 8/8/2011

Gary Alan Wilds, Sr., age 59, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Wilmington, DE.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on October 4, 1951, Gary was the son of the late Harry Calvin Wilds and Hedwig Hedy Anne Soboleski Wilds. He was raised in New Castle, DE, where he graduated from William Penn High School, and would go on to serve his country proudly as an MP in the US Army during the Vietnam War era. Later, Gary worked as a Special Agent with the Criminal Investigation Division at Fort Bragg, NC. Shortly thereafter he moved to Crumpton MD, the heart of his fathers roots.

Gary was well known for his wonderful, dry sense of humor, and for being exceptionally articulate. Names are far too many to mention, yet Gary and his family are eternally grateful for the care and compassion developed in special friendships with the hospital staff (especially those on the fourth floor) so generously administered throughout Garys last eight months at the VA hospital, especially for his closest friendships with a very caring medical assistant, Mac Benjamin, social worker, Myron White, and personal barber, Lee Limberry.

Gary is survived by his son, Gary Alan Wilds Jr, of Parkton, NC; daughter, Tracey Anne Holt of Fayetteville, NC; brother, Harry Bud Wilds of Crumpton, MD; sister, Karen Schimmel of Fair Hill, MD; grandchildren, Lance, Krysta, Taylor, Zachary, Jacob, Samantha, Christopher, and Caitlin Wilds; and great grandchildren, Zallie and Liam Wilds. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donnie Wilds.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10th St, Ste 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.
