Gary Gene Clere

Mr. Gary Gene Clere, age 77, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2011 at his home.


Born on January 4, 1933 in Huntington, WV, Mr. Clere was the son of the late Cecil Clere and Meredith Adkins Clere. He worked as a chemical assistant for the DuPont Company at the Chestnut Run facility and retired after 32 years of dedicated service.


Mr. Clere was an active volunteer and served in the 1960s as a past State vice president for the Delaware Jaycees. He was a longtime and devoted member of the Asbury United Methodist Church where he served as a past president of the Board of Trustees. In his leisure time, Mr. Clere enjoyed gardening, was an avid sports fan, and had become very interested in researching his genealogy. Above all else, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by those who love him.


In addition to his parents, Mr. Clere was predeceased by his sisters, Sharon Ann Malone and Melanie Kay Meredith. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Constance Ayers Clere; children, Gary S. Clere, and fiance, Marissa Lacey, of Smyrna, DE, Kimberley G. Clere, of New Castle, DE, and Christine M. Sunstrom of NH; brothers, Jerry David Clere and wife, Donna of CO, and Larry Ray Clere and wife, Marilyn of FL; sisters, Mary Lynn Nance and husband, Bill of OH, Karen Sue Ashworth and Lynda Lou Eden, both of WV; grandchildren, Stephen, Heather, Joey, Nikolas, and Taryn; a great-grandson, Tyler; and many nieces and nephews.


A visitation will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 300 East Basin Road, New Castle. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
