George Fay Thomas
Mr. George Fay Thomas, age 82, of New Castle and Bethany Beach, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Scranton, PA, on January 28, 1929, Mr. Thomas was the son of the late George A. Thomas and Almeda White Thomas. He proudly served his country in the US Army. Mr. Thomas was a State Farm Insurance agent for 40 years in Olde New Castle, a career he truly loved and shared with his wife who worked alongside him. After his retirement he would often comment how he had the best clients and how he missed dealing with them.
In his leisure hours, Mr. Thomas greatly enjoyed family gatherings at the beach, cheering for his favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles, big band music and going dancing with his wife. He was a gifted musician as well, and, in earlier years, played drums and percussion professionally with local bands. Most of all, he will be remembered as a devoted family man who delighted more than anything else in spending time with his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren. He always made all of his family friends and relatives feel right at home in his piece of paradise in Bethany Beach.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott T. Walz. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Kay Lewis Thomas, with whom he would have celebrated 58 years of marriage in June; children, Kevin S. Thomas (Carolyn) of Wilmington, Kathy G. Walz of Pike Creek, and Evan R. Thomas (Kathy) of Middletown; former son-in-law, Paul Walz; sister, Dolores Bowie (Dale) of Pembroke Pines, FL; and grandchildren, Justin W. Thomas (Angie), Gaylyn Fay Walz, Ryan R. Thomas, Taylor L. Thomas, and Morgan C. Thomas.
Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 6 pm on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, May 16, 2011, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.
