George Harvey Baker, Sr.

George Harvey Baker, Sr., age 69, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 11, 2017.

Born in Baltimore, MD on January 20, 1948, George was the son of the late Earl and Catherine (Spencer) Baker. A jack of all trades, he worked in various careers throughout his life, but was most recently employed at Onyx Industrial Services in North East, MD.

A man of strong Catholic faith, George was a longtime parishioner of Holy Spirit Church, where he was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. A loving individual, he gave endless hours of service to the group, collecting turkeys during the holidays to feed the homeless and assisting the Dominican sisters of the parish. George was well-known as the Rose Hill Handyman and went out of his way to assist his neighbors and other community members. Additionally, he was a dedicated caregiver to Harold and Lillie Harper for many years. Above all else, George was a loving father, companion, and dear friend to many who will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his son, George H. Baker, Jr.; beloved companion, Regina Watson, with whom he lived for the past 20 years; brother, Earl Baker (Linda); dear friend, Theresa Wisniewski; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 am on Monday, July 31, 2017, at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, 12 Winder Rd., New Castle, DE 19720. Burial will be held privately in St. Peter the Apostle Cemetery, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in George’s memory may be made to Holy Spirit Church, at the address listed above.
