George M. Baynard, age 72, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 16, 2016.

Born in Sudlersville, MD on August 2, 1943, George was a son of the late George Baynard and Georgia (Marvel) Starkey. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. George made his career as a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after over 40 years of dedicated employment at the Quigley Boulevard branch.

He enjoyed reading, walking, gardening and attending classic car shows in his leisure time. Above all else, George was happiest in the company of his beloved family and faithful canine companion, Spike.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Rose Ann (Sewitsky) Baynard; children, Cynthia Thompsen of Austin, TX, G. Michael Baynard (Jacqueline) of Austin, TX, Susan Baynard-Wierzbicki (Stashul) of Wilmington, DE and William Baynard (Lisa) of Wilmington, DE; sister, Marianne Murch (Joe) of Wilmington, DE; granddaughters, Emily Ann Baynard and Emily Virginia Baynard; and extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday morning, June 22, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read’s Way, Ste. 205, New Castle, DE 19720.

  • George Baynard was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I was so thankful that when my son Stashul married his daughter, Susan, he gained a second set of parents that loved as much as their own. George will be sorely missed here but I know he is in Heaven surrounded by loved ones. My prayers go out to his survivors, they are the ones in pain. Rose Anne and Susan you hold tight to all the wonderful memories he made with you, they will be very helpful through this. Love, Becky
