September 23, 1929 – May 16, 2014

Gerald George “Jerry” Katzmire, 84, of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2014.

Born on September 23, 1929 in Summit Hill, PA, he was the son of the late Norman Katzmire and Margaret McMichael Katzmire.

Jerry was a graduate of Summit Hill High School.  He proudly served his country in the US Army as an MP in Italy during the Korean War.

He dedicated 40 years of service at ICI Americas in Wilmington as a millwright mechanic, retiring in 1994.

In his leisure time, Jerry enjoyed gardening and woodworking and was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan.  Together with his wife, they loved taking cruises, especially to Alaska.   Jerry will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

He is survived by the love of his life, his beloved wife of 58 years, Bernadine A. Praskac Katzmire; three children, Paula K. Mundell (Charles) of Middletown, Gerald N. Katzmire (Diana) of Newark and David P. Katzmire (Lisa) of Newark; a sister, Shirley Weston (Jack) of Summit Hill, PA and six very special grandchildren, Sarah, Eric, Lauren, Cole, Kayla and Ben.

On behalf of Jerry’s family, they would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all of his “angels” from Bayada, Vitas Hospice and Cadia Rehabilitation Center/Broadmeadow.

All services are private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

I am reminded of those several trips Jerry and Al made together to Wilmington before they were finally hired at ICI and of the many years of friendship that they shared.
