Mrs. Geraldine Lee Thompson, age 88, of Newark, DE, died on Sunday, March 14, 2010. Mrs. Thompson was born in Florence, AL on April 26, 1921, daughter of the late Dexter C. Lee and Margaret Riddle Lee, and was a graduate of Winthrop College. A resident of the local area since 1956, she had worked as a mathematician for 10 years with the federal government in Aberdeen, MD. She received her masters degree in education from the University of Delaware, and taught mathematics at William Penn High School from 1972 to 1983. Her professional affiliations included the National Education Association and the Delaware State Education Association. Active in her community, Mrs. Thompson was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, the Howard Weston Senior Center, the Blue & Gold Club at the University of Delaware, and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Mrs. Thompson will be remembered as a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother, as well as mom to the hundreds of young people she taught in the Colonial School District. She was a true Southern belle and will be missed by all who loved her. Her beloved husband, Joseph Edmund Thompson, Jr., died in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Dexter C. Lee, Jr., and sister, Peggy Boulware. She is survived by her sons, Joseph E. Thompson III (Ann) of Charleston, SC; and Keith L. Thompson (Debbie) of Elkton, MD; 5 grandchildren; and a great grandchild. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 9 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
