Died: 3/13/2011

Mrs. Gertrude Margaret (Black) Wrightson, age 79, of Newark, DE, formerly of New Castle, DE, died on Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Christiana Hospital.

Born in Sunbury, PA, Mrs. Wrightson was the daughter of the late William Black and Verna Auten. Early in her professional career, she was employed as a data processing clerk for the Delaware Memorial Bridge Authority. She later accepted a position as a teller with the Wilmington Trust Company in Old New Castle, where she retired.

Following her retirement, Mrs. Wrightson and her husband, Robert, owned and operated Crafty Creations in Elsmere for several years. She enjoyed painting many of the items that were sold in the store, participating in local craft shows, and shopping for unique merchandise made by other crafters.

In her leisure hours, she looked forward to playing cards and board games with family and friends, including the many new friends she made after joining the Newark Senior Center. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother above all else, she will be long remembered as an excellent, compassionate caregiver to the all those whom she loved.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert Elwood Wrightson, brother, Richard Black, and sister, Johann Bair. She is survived by her children, Debra Waugh (fianc, Mike Sklodowski) of Newark, Terry Wrightson (Susan) of Rising Sun, and Daniel Wrightson (Eileen) of Wilmington; brother, Robert Auten (partner, Ann Hatkevich) of Claymont; granddaughter, Nichole Pala (Tony) of Middletown; and brothers-in-law, James Wrightson, John Wrightson, and Ronald Wrightson (Lynn).

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Thursday, March 17th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 11:30 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Wrightson may be made to the Newark Senior Center, 200 White Chapel Drive, Newark, DE 19713 or to a favorite charity.
