  • Our deepest sympathy to all the family. He will be missed by all that came to know him. I remember as a child, being at Emily P Hospital for months at a time and Uncle Gil would come out to visit me and bring the girls and we would go outside to play some catch or hit the ball.I also enjoyed when we went out to the house in Claymont and he always had a project going on and we Would get to help.I have missed when a nice day came up and I would take my motorcycle out for a short ride and ALWAYS started out by stopping by the house in Carvel Farms.Just to find uncle Gil either working hard in that beautiful yard or hitting golf balls in the garage. He is a great great mentor to me and love him undiscriably…..will miss him and think of him Forever. Rest in Peace.

  • Gilbert was a good man. What I remember most was his loyalty to his Mother, calling her almost each day to check on her welfare.

  • Gilbert was a great guy and we always enjoyed he and Janet’s visits to Roanoke. I agree with Roger about his dedication to Aunt Mary and to his entire family. I am sorry we cannot attend the funeral but will be there in spirit. Love to all

  • My deepest condolences to the Mitchell family. I will always remember his beautiful blue eyes that sparkled every time he smiled. He was such a kind and sweet man. Although, I didn’t spend a whole lot of time with him over the years, the memories I do have are all happy ones. Please know that Aunt Janet, LaDonna and Sharon are in my thoughts and prayers, as always. RIP Uncle Gil.

  • I remember Gilbert as a kind, caring, and compassionate man who always put family first. Although I hadn’t seen Gilbert in years, I will forever remember his smile and the twinkle in his eyes. Condolences to Janet, LaDonna, Sharon and the rest of the family.

  • Uncle Gil was an incredible person. I enjoyed talking with him and hearing his stories. I’ve lost touch with most of my family over the years but they’re always in my thoughts. I think of my Uncle Gil whenever I work in the yard, he taught me how to plant and transplant trees and plants of all types. I’ve planted many trees, bushes and plants throughout the years and I thank him for the knowledge he imparted to me (most of my attempts were successful). He will be missed but will always be with me and I’m thankful for that privilege and honor.

  • Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time…
I’ll always remember the kind hearted nature of “Pop pop Mitchell”… So calm and sweet spirited… Those beautiful blues will be watching down on all of you while on this Earth til you meet again..
May the Holy Spirit fill you with love knowing Pop pop is safe and sound and at home with our Creator, Jesus.
All our love and deepest sympathy,
    Annie Santo-Henderson

  • Remembering my precious Dad and knowing his memories and love will live in my heart forever by the grace of God. Special thanks to our family and friends for their continued prayers, love and support.
