Giovanni Alanzo Zahn

Born July 26, 2013

Beautiful, smiling, precious little Giovanni Alanzo Zahn, affectionately known as Gio, age 5 months, of Newark, DE went home to be with the Lord, on Friday, January 3, 2014.

Gio was born in Newark, Delaware on July 26, 2013, and was the son of John Albert Zahn and Autumn Danae Moore. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Angela Anderson-Moore and David Moore and his companion, Kathy Fox; paternal grandparents, John Zahn and Anna Zahn; maternal great grandparents, Vernon and Ruth Coleman; uncles, Cody Moore and Freddie Zahn; aunt, Jessica Zahn; special great great aunt, Betty Matheny; and several great aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Gio Zahn Memorial Fund, in care of the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720.

One night I cried to Jesus as I sat beneath the tree.
I looked up into the open sky and hoped he’d answer me.

I’m lost dear lord. I’ve traveled far but still I seem to roam.
Please light the way and lead me Lord,
I need to get back home.

I told him of my burdens and of the sadness in my heart,
That from his gracious love I’d never felt so far apart.

Why did you take my child, Lord? I cannot understand.
No longer can I touch his face or hold his tiny hand.

I’m angry Lord. I’m missing him. I’m drowning in my sorrow.
Please help to heal my yesterday and face each new tomorrow.

It was then I heard his gentle voice and felt his presence near,
How I wanted so to hold him as I cried another tear.

He said “Mommy, I’m an angel now. My spirit will be free.
I’m an angel now in heaven, so please don’t cry for me.”

“I was chosen by our Lord above and now I’m in his care.
Whenever you need me, just look inside your heart. I promise to be there”

No one can ever take away our bond with one another.
For I’ll always be your precious child, as you will always be my mother.

So if you cannot find your way or the road to home seems far,
Just look up to the heavens and I’ll be your guiding star.

He said “Mommy, I’m an angel now. My spirit will be free.
I’m an angel now in heaven. There’s no need to cry for me.”

  • We will surely miss our precious “Gio” and his contagious smile and laugh. I think this poem I found says it all. We love you and are here for you when you need to call.

    Little Angels

    Little Angels – Unknown

When God calls little children to dwell with Him above,
We mortals sometime question the wisdom of His love.
For no heartache compares with the death of one small child
Who does so much to make our world, seem wonderful and mild
Perhaps God tires of calling the aged to his fold,
So He picks a rosebud, before it can grow old.

God knows how much we need them, and so He takes but few
To make the land of Heaven more beautiful to view.
Believing this is difficult still somehow we must try,
The saddest word mankind knows will always be “Goodbye.”
So when a little child departs, we who are left behind
Must realize God loves children, Angels are hard to find.

  • I am sending my condolences and I’m sure you miss baby Giovanni very much. My heart goes out to you at this time and in the days ahead. May special memories bring you comfort. Jesus has the deep desire and the ability to remove the pain of bereaved ones. Please consider the words of comfort and hope found at Mark 6:38-41. Thinking of the family.

  • My name is Susan. Although you do not know me, I would like to express my deep sorrow at the loss of your precious baby boy.The death of a child is among the most painful losses a human can experience. I know this because my husband and I lost our baby girl many years ago. It still hurts. We learned that God has the power to undo such losses. We know that this is true because he empowered a few men in Bible times to resurrect the dead. One case, recounted at 2 Kings 4:8-37, involved the resurrection of a young boy by the prophet Elisha.

The account of the resurrection of this woman’s son is a source of hope and comfort to us. I hope it can be for you as well. God understands our grief, as parents who have lost a child in death. What is more, he yearns to undo such losses. (Job 14:14, 15) The resurrections performed by Elisha and others in Bible times are a token of what Jehovah God will do on a far grander scale in his righteous new world to come.

I realize that the Bible’s promise of a resurrection does not eliminate the pain of losing a loved one. This pain will not be gone completely until we can see and hold them once again. Imagine the prospect of being reunited with your sweet baby boy, as well as other loved ones who have died. Just the thought of being able to hold them again can make your pain easier to bear. If you would care to learn more about the God who gives us this precious hope, I would love to share more encouraging information with you. You may email me back [email protected] or you can go to the website at jw.org and find out more on your own.

Please be reassured that God is near to those who are “brokenhearted, and he saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalms 34:18) Shortly “he will satisfy the desire of every living thing.”(Psalms 145:16) He promises that “there is going to be a resurrection.” (Acts 24:15) We can have confidence that these words are faithful and true.

    Sincerely,
    Susan
