Gladys J. Ingram Smilyk

Born January 10, 1933

Gladys J. Ingram Smilyk, known fondly as Wrinkles, GMom, LilG, and Mom Mom G, age 83, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Christiana Hospital.

A lifelong Delawarean, Gladys was born in Wilmington on January 10, 1933, and was the daughter of the late Francis F. Haslam and Irene Hoffman. She was a talented homemaker who devoted her life to caring for and raising her family.

Gladys was a woman of strong faith and longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in New Castle. She enjoyed arts and crafts and attending bingo in her leisure time. Above all else, Gladys was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother who will be very dearly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edgar Ingram; brothers, Francis F. Haslam Jr., Horace J. Haslam and Donald Haslam; sister, Mary Bolen; and great granddaughter, Daja Marie. Gladys is survived by her daughters, Bonnie L. Tulowitzki (Mark) of Chicago, IL, Kathy L. Hicken (Jeff) of Smyrna, DE, Donna M. Thomas (Bill) of New Castle, DE and Franny Kay Ingram (Ivan) of Newark, DE; brothers, Joseph L. Haslam, New Castle, DE, Charles Buddy Haslam of Dover, DE and Phillip Tielleman of New Castle, DE; grandchildren, Kim Best, Mark Tulowitzki, Ed Ingram, J.R. Ingram, Steven Simpler, Kenny Simpler and Andrew Rubia; 8 great grandchildren; and fur grandbabies, Mikki, Lou Lola, Joey, Nugget and Mickey.

The family would like to thank the 4E nurses and other staff members at Christiana Hospital for taking such great care of Gladys. We could not have asked for a better group of people to care for her.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home of Wilmington Manor, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

  • My condolences to the family and friends on the loss of your loved one. Losing someone you love is truly difficult and I know Gladys will be missed. Please know our heavenly Father holds out promises that can help us with our sorrow. One such promise is that death soon will be done away with forever (Revelation 21:4) and another promise is that “there is going to be a resurrection.” (Acts 24:15) I pray these promises from God, who cannot lie, (Titus 1:2) bring you comfort.
