Gloria R. Johnson, age 71, of Newark, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 7, 2014.

Born in Shickshinny, PA on November 18, 1942, Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late Monroe Leonard Hess and Mabel Gertrude Pritchard Hess. After graduating from high school, she worked for the Commonwealth Telephone Company. She married Walter C. Johnson on June 8, 1963 and the couple moved to Delaware in 1964. In addition to caring for her family, Mrs. Johnson worked as a customer service representative for PNC Bank, retiring after many years of dedicated service.

She was a longtime and active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newark, where she especially enjoyed participating in bible studies and attending social gatherings with family and friends. A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, Mrs. Johnson will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Clayton Johnson. She is survived by her children, Wendy Johnson (Dale L. Faulls) and Randy S. Johnson (Michelle); sister-in-law, Margaret Johnson; and 4 grandchildren, Kelsey T. Styles, Mathew T. Styles, Brianna L. Johnson and Bennett S. Johnson.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday morning, September 17, 2014, at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 200 Marrows Road, Newark, DE 19713, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am. Interment in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE, will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church at the address listed above.

  • Walt and Gloria were are neighbors and friends for 50 years. We have great memories of those
    years. Our kids growing up together, the chats across the backyard fence, the telephone calls.

    They both will be sadly missed, but we thank God for our times together.
