Gordon Stanley Muffett

Born August 18, 1930

Gordon Stanley Muffett, age 84, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 29, 2015.

Born in Staten Island, New York on August 18, 1930, Gordon was the son of the late Charles G. Muffett and Violet N. (Halipas) Gussis. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and during this time, would meet his future wife, Frances, who was also serving. Gordon made his career as a communications technician with AT&T, retiring after many years of dedicated service.

He enjoyed staying active and was a member of both the Newark Senior Center and the Sussex Family YMCA. Gordon was proud of his home and spent many hours tending to his yard. In his leisure time, he looked forward to fishing and boating with family and friends. Gordon was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather who was happiest in the company of his loved ones and will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Frances (Fleming) Muffett. Gordon is survived by his children, David G. Muffett of New Castle, Carol A. Cesario (Michael Kosempa) of Nashville, TN, Richard R. Muffett of New Castle, Linda M. Bakomenko (Joseph) of Bear, Sandra M. Falkowski (James) of Bear and Christina M. Smith (Jeff) of Avondale, PA; sisters, Doris Esposito and Bonnie Muffett (Dimps); grandchildren, Anthony, Christopher and Amanda Cesario, Christopher and Aaron Muffett, Carl and Natalie Bakomenko and Jessica (Henne) and Austin Smith; and 5 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Saturday afternoon, August 1, 2015 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 pm until 3 pm. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gordon’s name may be made to the Sussex Family YMCA, 20080 Church Street, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 or to PAWS for People, P.O. Box 9955, Newark, DE 19714.
