Gregory Francis Malatesta

August 21, 1940 – May 22, 2015

Gregory Francis Malatesta, age 74, of Dover, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2015.

A native Delawarean, Mr. Malatesta was born in Wilmington on August 21, 1940, and was a son of the late Gregory F. Malatesta and Eleanor F. (Nolan) Malatesta. He made his career as a journeyman with the Wilmington News Journal, retiring in 2003 after 30 years of dedicated service.

An active member of CWA Local 139, Mr. Malatesta served as a former vice president and shop steward. He was an avid outdoorsman and angler and former member of both the Golden Rule Bass Fishing Club and the West End Rod and Gun Club. Mr. Malatesta gave his time and talents as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels of Delaware at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover for 10 years. He was also a USO volunteer at the Dover Air Force Base. Above all else, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who adored spending time with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren whom he held particularly close to his heart.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Malatesta was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Joseph Malatesta. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Barbara R. (Van Dyke) Malatesta; daughter, Amy R. Fleetwood and husband, Eddie of Dover; sister, Mary Oratorio of Wilmington; 4 grandchildren, Kyle A., Thomas M., Andrew H. and Kaitlyn R. Fleetwood; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday morning, May 29, 2015, in the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, c/o the Modern Maturity Center, 1121 Forest Avenue, Dover, DE 19904.
