Harold W. Badders, Jr. - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Harold W. Badders, Jr.

Born July 12, 1943

Harold W. Sonny Badders, Jr., age 74, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017.

A native Delawarean, Sonny was born in Wilmington on July 12, 1943. He proudly served in the U.S. Army where he trained in the motor pool in Germany. Sonny brought his military training and experiences home and used those skills while owning and operating the Talleyville Shell service station on Rt 202. He later accepted a position with DART, where he worked as a bus driver for 20 years.

With quiet strength, Sonny was completely devoted to his entire family. He was a caring person who was always there to help his family with car problems or any challenges that life brought.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Badders; mother and stepfather, Eleanor (Barnett) and Vincent Love; and father, Harold W. Badders, Sr.
Sonny is survived by his sisters, Carol Bauerle of Smyrna, Eleanor Steele of Middletown, and Peggy Panico and husband, Bob of Newark; brother, Ken Love and wife, Diane of Bear; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Eiler Hillard and Larry and Eleanor of Home Instead for their attentive and compassionate care which allowed Sonny to remain in his home while fighting a long mysterious illness eventually diagnosed as cerebellar degeneration. Although his mobility was limited to the use of a walker and wheelchair, he worked hard to maintain his strength and day-to-day independence, and endured his disability with the support of his siblings.

In respect of Sonny’s predirected wishes, family listings have been limited and funeral services celebrating the life of this wonderful man were held privately.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sonny’s memory along with a note stating that the donation is to be used to support the mission of NINDS, may be sent to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Financial Management Branch Building 31, Room 8A34, 31 Center Drive, MSC 2540 Bethesda, MD 20892-2540.

One Condolence for Harold W. Badders, Jr.

  • I will miss Sonny greatly,
From our days hanging out at his Shell station on the Concord pike up until the past few years , his friendship was something I have always valued.
I met my wife at that Shell station and after 45 years we are still together.
She was also deeply saddened the hear of Sonny’s passing as we all tied to stay in touch even after our family moved to St. Louis.
I will always remember his smile and laugh the best. May he rest in peace with God the Father.
may the peace of the Lord be with your family at this time of sorrow.
I won’t cry because he’s gone, I will smile because I knew him!

    Bill and Nancy Kener
