Harry O. Williamson
Mr. Harry O. Williamson, age 88, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Heartland Hospice House.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Williamson was born in Wilmington on January 20, 1923, son of the late Charles Williamson and Viola Mastin Williamson. He proudly served his country in the US Army stationed in Italy during World War II, and would go on to a distinguished career with the Wilmington Fire Department, where he retired as a captain after 20 years. Following his work in professional fire service, he accepted a position as the maintenance supervisor for Wyeth Laboratories in West Chester, PA, retiring again in 1985.
Mr. Williamson remained active in veterans organizations throughout his life and was a member of J. Allison ODaniel Post #475 VFW and American Legion Post #10, both in Newark.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Cora A. Biscoe Williamson; daughter, Gail M. Dierolf (Rich Sr.) of Wilmington; son, Mark A. Williamson (Susan) of Newark; grandson, Richie W. Dierolf, Jr.; and nephews, Kenneth Williamson (Dottie) of New Castle and Rick Williamson (Debbie) of Newark. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles, Elmer, Olive, Kenneth, and Earl.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, May 23, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
