Hedwig J. “Edna” Dittmar

Born November 22, 1921

Hedwig J. Dittmar, affectionately known as Hedy, age 93, of Georgetown, MD and formerly of New Castle, Smyrna and Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2015.

Born in Central Falls, RI on November 22, 1921, Hedy was a daughter of the late Vitold Kiewra and Jadwiga Korszun. She devoted her life to caring for her family and was a talented homemaker.

A devout Catholic, Hedy was a former parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in New Castle. She was very active and enjoyed competitive roller skating and dancing in her younger years. She was an active member of the Modern Maturity Center in Dover, where she made many friends with whom she traveled. In her leisure time, Hedy enjoyed bowling. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles J. Dittmar; brothers, Stanley, Walter and Edward Kiewra, sisters, Helen Kuczuk and Anne Holinski, granddaughter, Lauren D. Bailey and son-in-law, Earl Bailey. Hedy is survived by her children, Lorraine Bailey of Georgetown, MD, Diane Del Duco (Richard) of Lewes, DE, John Dittmar of Southwest Harbor, ME and Donald Dittmar of Middletown, DE; sisters, L. Geneveve Myles of Newburg, NH; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday morning, January 10, 2015, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Dennis Church, 153 N. Main Street, Galena, MD 21635 or to Seasons Hospice, 253 Lewis Lane, Suite 303, Havre de Grace, MD 21078.
