Born December 22, 1926

Helen (Ferguson) Foraker, age 88, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 16, 2015.

A lifelong Delawarean, Helen was born in New Castle on December 22, 1926, and was a daughter of the late Lee H. Ferguson and Mary E. (Toomey) Ferguson. She assisted with the war effort during WWII by working as a horn packer at the Newark-based Continental factory. After marrying her late husband, Elwood, the two would settle down and begin their family. Helen would spend most of her life as a homemaker, who was devoted to caring for her family.

She was a former member of Red Lion Methodist Church where she was active in the women’s society and taught Sunday school. Most recently, Helen was a member of Elkton Baptist Church. In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening, traveling and taking Sunday drives with her husband. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was happiest in the company of her beloved family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood C. “Tommy” Foraker; brother, Stanley Ferguson; and sisters, Pauline Smith and Doris Prettyman. Helen is survived by her sons, Troy Foraker of Newark, Steven Foraker (Karen) of Colora, MD and Martin Foraker (Robin) of Newark; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

Services and interment will be held privately.

Though you will I’m sure always miss her presence daily…., love, humor, and wit, her spirit lives on forever and you will always carry her and the memories deep in your hearts, until each of us are called home to be reunited with our loved ones.
