Helena M. Schroyer, age 81, of Middletown, DE, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, while surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on March 24, 1933, Helena was the daughter of the late James G. Christopher and Anna Gallagher Christopher. Possessing a strong will and tenacious spirit, she worked various jobs while raising 4 children on her own. Helena enjoyed working, especially the time she spent serving as a school bus driver.

She was a devout Catholic and longtime member of St. Joseph’s Church in Middletown. A devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Helena adored her family and was happiest while in their company. She will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, Helena was preceded in death by a son, Mark Thomas Schroyer and a grandson, Jeremy Schroyer. She is survived by her children, John James Schroyer (Sheila) of Newnan, GA, Dr. Helena M. Schroyer (Mhaidi Elmedkhar) of Middletown and Matthew L. Schroyer (Sandra) of Berlin, NJ; brother, John Christopher of TN; 7 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday morning, December 20, 2014, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham Avenue and Easton Road, Philadelphia, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Helena’s name may be made to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, c/o Christiana Care, P.O. Box 1668, Wilmington, DE 19899.
