Hermenegildo V. Vidal

Born June 30, 1927

Hermenegildo V. Vidal, age 87, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 4, 2015.

Born in the Philippine Islands in the town of Cavite, on June 30, 1927, Mr. Vidal was a son of the late Mateo Vidal and Victoria Villanueva Vidal. He became a United States citizen in 1948 and would later join the U.S. Navy. A proud 22 year military veteran, Mr. Vidal retired at the rank of Petty Officer, 1st class.

He was a longtime parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, where he was a member of the choir. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching baseball and wrestling. In his leisure time, Mr. Vidal liked solving many kinds of word puzzles.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather and will be dearly missed by all.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Engracia (Bayot) Vidal; son, Harold Vidal (Sandra) of Newark, DE; daughter, Vicky Tayag (Norberto) of Bear, DE; brothers, George Vidal, Augusto Vidal and Rogelio Vidal; sisters, Norma Abrenica and Amelia Ancao; 4 grandchildren, Christina Vidal and Andrew, Madeline and Joey Tayag; 1 great granddaughter, Mia Bronwen Postel; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 am on Friday morning, April 10, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, 345 Bear-Christiana Road, Bear, DE 19701, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:15 am until 11:15 am. Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, at the address listed above, or to the Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, KS 66675 (woundedwarriorproject.org).
