Hervey Russell “Russ” Morrison

Mr. Hervey Russell Russ Morrison, age 74, of Delaware City, DE, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2010, after an extended illness.


Born in Wilmington on August 17, 1936, Russ was the son of the late G. Hervey Buck Morrison and Alice R. Downs Morrison.


Russ led a full life and helped many people over the years. He was very family-oriented, taking care of his parents when they suffered illness. He helped many people that were friends.


Russ graduated in 1954 from Delaware City High School. He served two years in the US Army. Upon leaving the service, he worked for many years as a surveyor and then went to work for the Delaware City Refinery, until his retirement from the Marine Terminal.


Russ had many hobbies. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish. He was a talented musician. He was well-versed in many crafts, making his own duck calls, fishing lures, decoys, and jewelry. He enjoyed reloading his own ammunition for shot guns, rifles, and handguns.


Although never married, Russ enjoyed spending time with children of family and friends. He was an excellent teacher and role model for the youngsters.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Paul Kenneth Morrison. He is survived by his aunt, Grace Browne of Virginia, and cousins, Charles W. Camac, E. Eileen Keen, Michael L. McNatt, Susan E. Forestieri, Kaitlin J. Forestieri, Chris Camac, Andy Camac, Lorraine Kouts, James Morrison, Kay Harris, Cherly Fourquet, Doris Price, Annabelle Weldin, Earl Laws, Janet Abernathy, Shirley Amato, Diane Keen, Thomas Browne, Timothy Browne, and William Morrison. He also leaves behind many longtime friends who will miss his smile and quiet wit.


A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 214 Clinton Street, Delaware City, DE, where visitation will begin at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Delaware City Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tri-State Bird Rescue, 110 Old Possum Hollow Road, Newark, DE 19711; or to the American Heart Association, 1501 Casho Mill Rd., Ste. 1, Newark, DE 19711.
