Horace G. Patterson, Jr.

Mr. Horace G. Patterson, Jr., known fondly as Pat, age 76, of Middletown, DE, died on Friday, November 12, 2010, at his home.

Mr. Patterson was born in Wilmington on July 27, 1934, son of the late Horace G. Patterson, Sr. and Laura Warrington Patterson, and was a graduate of Claymont High School. A longtime member of Teamsters Union Local 328, he had been employed as a professional driver and salesman with the Delmar News Agency unitl his retirement in 1995.

Active in the Masonic order throughout his life, Mr. Patterson was a member of Oriental Lodge #27, AF&AM, and had achieved the 33rd Degree. He was a also a Knight of the York Cross of Honor and a member of the Order of the Purple Cross.

In his leisure hours, he greatly enjoyed playing golf with friends. Most of all, he delighted in spending time with his beloved family and will be lovingly remembered for his complete devotion to them.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John C. Patterson, and son-in-law, Eugene Derrickson. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Hoyt Patterson; daughter, Gayle Derrickson; son, Timothy S. Patterson (companion, Donna Roberson); brother, Ronald E. Patterson (Margaret); daughter-in-law, Louise Patterson Remillard; grandchildren, Patrick (Shellee), Susan (Dan Hanna), Laura (Michael), Brent, Rebecca, Chris, Carol, and Jeremy; great grandchildren, Jordan, Keri, Alexis, Tyler, Gabrielle, Josh, and Sidnee; and his pet dog, Copper.

A visitation will be held beginning at 1 pm on Wednesday, November 17, 2010, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A Masonic service and funeral service will follow at 2 pm. Interment will be in the adjoining memorial park.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Delaware Chapter, 100 W. 10th Street, Ste. 209, Wilmington, DE 19801.
