Howard W. Arnold
Retired Gore Executive
Mr. Howard W. Arnold, age 90, of Newark, DE, died on Thursday, November 25, 2010, at his home.
Born in Stow, OH, on January 25, 1920, Mr. Arnold was the son of the late Warren Arnold and Fannie (Singer) Arnold. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II and some years later accepted a position as the first associate of W.L. Gore and Associates, where he made significant contributions to the growth of the enterprise. After a long and rewarding career, Mr. Arnold retired from Gore as a global leader of manufacturing and engineering. He served on the companys board of directors from 1958 to 1998.
Mr. Arnold had many interests throughout his life. Fascinated by cutting edge technology and electronics, he delighted in anything new and innovative, from appliances to computers to photography. Even in his later years, he was adept at learning new software. He and his wife traveled worldwide for both business and pleasure. Mr. Arnold was responsible for the design and construction of 13 homes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John W. Arnold. He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Anna Mae Smith Arnold; daughter, Leslie A. Hill and her husband Ron of Newark, DE; grandchildren, Jayne and her husband Tim, Jack and his wife Nicki, Carrie and her husband David, Debi, and David and his wife Mandy; and 11 great grandchildren.
Services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
