Isidoro M. DeFilippis

Isidoro M. DeFilippis, known fondly as Izzy, age 72, of Clayton, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 8, 2014.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware on January 26, 1942, Izzy was a son of the late Isidoro DeFilippis and Concetta Barranco DeFilippis. He proudly served his country as a member of the Delaware Air National Guard. Izzy made has career as a mechanic with Bear Alignment located in Wilmington, where he worked for many years. He later owned and operated Izzy’s Auto in Cheswold and Smyrna for 30 years.

Izzy held a special place in his heart for animals and cherished his two lovely dogs, Winnie and Sparky. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and friend who will be dearly missed.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the entire staff of Seasons Hospice for the exceptional care given to Izzy during his illness.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Luigi and Alfonse DeFilippis. Izzy is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Diane M. Blanchfield DeFilippis; son, James A. DeFilippis of Clayton; brothers, John DeFilippis of Milton and Joe DeFilippis of Newark; and many special nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday morning, July 11, 2014, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), 455 Stanton-Christiana Road, Newark, DE 19713 or to Seasons Hospice of Delaware 220 Continental Drive, Ste. 101 Newark, DE 19713.
