James Edward Shreve, Sr.

Born October 19, 1949

James Edward Shreve, Sr., age 64, of Horntown, VA and formerly of St. Georges and New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, May 12, 2014.

Born in Petersburg, West Virginia on October 19, 1949, James was a son of the late Benjamin O. and Molly C. Shreve. He proudly served his country in the US Army. James made his career with the Chrysler Corporation where he worked as an assembler at the company’s Newark, DE plant for 33 years. He was most recently employed at NAPA Auto Parts in Pocomoke City, MD, where he worked part time.

James enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. In his leisure time, he loved reading a good book. He was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Veronica K. Shreve; children, Melissa Shreve (Darren) of Claymont, DE, James Shreve, Jr. (Erika) of New Castle, DE and Carrie Shreve (Eric) of Horntown, VA; siblings, Ben Shreve, Wanda Hedrick and Mike Shreve all of Upper Tract, WV and Joyce Calhoun of Culpeper, VA; and 6 grandchildren, Jimmy, Brayden, Zachary, Kyle, Austin and Eric.

A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday evening, May 16, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday morning, May 17, 2014, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Georges Cemetery, Kirkwood-St. Georges Road, St. Georges, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Eastern Shore, 165 Market Street, Suite 3, Onancock, VA 23417.
