James F. “Jim” Grebe

James F. “Jim” Grebe, age 78, passed away peacefully at home on December 5, 2018, surrounded by family.

Born in Bronx, NY on October 8, 1940, he was a son of late Edwin and Angelina (Romani) Grebe. At the age of 17 he joined the Army where he served for four years and later served in the Air National Guard. He graduated from James Groves then went on to earn his Business Management degree from Goldey Beacom College in 1977. He worked for Dupont Chambers Works in multiple supervisory and management roles during his 33 years, prior to retiring.

Jim was active in various organizations throughout his life, including coaching Little League, serving in leadership roles, not only with Chambers Works Management Association, but also the First State Antique Tractor Club, Florida Flywheelers in Ft. Meade, FL, the Delaware Chapter of the Antique Truck Club of America and the VFW Atterbury Post in Newark, DE. He also volunteered with the Wilmington Western Railroad and several organizations in New Jersey.

Jim loved to garden, evident by the hundreds of pounds of fruits and vegetables he grew each year. He loved his family and was a true friend to all who knew him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his friend and companion of 20 years, Jin Yoon; his brother, Edwin Grebe and sister, Doris Grebe, both of Bear, DE; his son, James Grebe (Sheri) of Wilmington, DE; daughter, Kimberley Grebe (Don) of Lewes, DE; two grandchildren, Logan and Elizabeth Grebe of Wilmington, DE, Janet Grebe, his friend and former wife; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 pm until 6:30 pm on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a Celebration of Life will begin at 6:30 pm. Interment will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
